The eighth annual 2012 CLI Model Classroom™ National Meeting took place on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. This exciting day began with a presentation and book signing by Newbery Honor author Joyce Sidman about why she writes poetry about nature and how to use poetry in the classroom. Dr. Kira Baker-Doyle, author of The Networked Teacher also presented on how to build networks among model classroom teachers. Rahshene Davis, CLI’s Chief Academic Officer also addressed the audience about embracing The Common Core Standards and using them as a tool to improve teaching and schools.
The afternoon featured the launch of
CLIcompass.org, CLI’s new online support and materials portal where you can learn about literacy best practices, access resources, connect with colleagues, and get support in your role as a teacher leader. The day concluded with grade-level breakout sessions to further explore Joyce’s poetry and classroom activities. Here at CLI, we believe that we can build on the strengths of teacher’s to create sustainable change which was evident throughout the entire day.
