Building on the Strengths of Teachers: Improving Student Literacy Achievement in Chicago, IL

Recently, CLI presented at the Council of Great City Schools Conference in Indianapolis, IN. “I went to the park to day.  I was playing with my sister!  It was fun.”

Teacher Reflection:

Elijah began the kindergarten year as an emerging writer with some knowledge of written language (some letter formation, sounding out words).  Now, toward the end of the year, Elijah is an enthusiastic writer who uses sight words consistently to write about his life as a writer, along with writing strategies learned during writer’s workshop/conferencing.
