CLI's Local Advisory Board for Broward county

Fort Lauderdale, April, 30 2021 – Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI), a 501 (c)(3) national non-profit organization focused on strengthening education in the U.S. by ensuring students can read by the end of third grade, recently announced its newly-established local Advisory Board for Broward county. The newly appointed board will be working closely with CLI’s national leadership, leveraging their collective skills and expertise, and guiding strategy and priorities.

Chaired by Evan, J. Goldman, Esq., the board’s leadership comprises of Kevin Johnson, D.B.A., as Vice-Chair and Development Committee Chair, and Marc Harris, Esq., as Secretary. Lauren M. Alperstein, Esq. serves as Raise a Glass for Reading Planning and Host Committee Broward Chair and Renzo Ferro as the Marketing & Communications Committee Chair. Additional members include Rachel Danzig, Heather Gray, and Primrose Humphries.
“To welcome this group of talented, experienced leaders to advise CLI through future growth in Broward is truly exciting,” said Joel Zarrow Ph.D., CEO, Children’s Literacy Initiative. “I am confident our advisors will elevate the opportunities for CLI to advance its mission as an anti-racist early literacy organization providing Black and Latinx children with the high-quality education they deserve.”

Evan J. Goldman is also the Vice President of Community Planning and Government Relations at the Jewish Federation of Broward County and has held previous roles as CEO of Helping Abused, Neglected, Disadvantaged Youth (HANDY) and Assistant Director of Public Affairs and Organizational Development for the Children’s Services Council of Broward County.

Established in 1988, Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) focuses on improving literacy instruction to ensure that underserved students can read by third grade. It provides one-on-one coaching for teachers and principals, research-based literacy training, and the books and materials classrooms need so that students can become powerful readers, writers, and thinkers. In 2017, CLI was awarded the David M. Rubenstein Prize, the top honor in the Library of Congress Literacy Awards program for nonprofit organizations that have made outstanding contributions to increasing literacy in the United States.
