Her Legacy. Their Future. A Donor Story

Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) has received an anonymous charitable bequest of over $72,000. As CLI honors the life and legacy of the donor, this generous gift is advancing CLI’s development of its new diagnostic coaching tool that aligns targeted literacy outcomes with teacher outcomes to create safe, caring, and equitable classrooms for learning.

Simone Champagnie, Major Gift Officer for CLI, reflecting on her conversation with the donor, says she is confident that the donor would be pleased with the lasting impact that her gift will make on early literacy.
“Although new to CLI’s donor community, she clearly expressed a desire to contribute to early literacy initiatives, a cause very near and dear to her heart,” said Champagnie. “I sensed her joy when I expressed gratitude for her having chosen CLI as an organization to trust with her legacy.”
The donor’s gift to CLI will have generational impact as it supports the creation of a durable data-driven system, enabled by technology, that will help CLI track, accelerate, and drive improvements in both CLI coaching and teacher practice, together with child reading outcomes across the country.
“We celebrate our supporters as they demonstrate their commitment to a shared vision for literacy. Their gifts not only enable CLI’s fiscal strength, but also ensure that CLI continues to provide and improve essential literacy programs for teachers and children well into the future,” added Champagnie. The donor’s estate attorney expressed that not listing her publicly would be more likely in keeping with her preference for privacy.

CLI honors and recognizes donors who have documented their commitment to CLI by will, trust, life insurance, beneficiary designation, or other deferred gifts.
